How long should an air compressor last in a ‘03 Explorer?

I had the unit replaced exactly 2 years ago and it seems too soon to have to replace it again (it went on me yesterday). The shop that did the original work guaranteed it for 1 year, parts and labor, but I am thinking if 2 years is really short then I should go after them to replace it for free or at a steep discount.
